An introduction to me
Hello and firstly thank you for reading. I’m Ali, a writer who loves reading, history and nature, and I’m the self proclaimed Tagalong Traveller!

It’s a silly title and a little self deprecating but it perfectly sums up the travel situations I often find myself in. My husband is a marine engineer who is often working away from home on different boats all over the world and if I’m lucky I get to tag a long with him.
The reason I chose the word ‘tagalong’ is because I often feel like I am tagging along. I never get to choose the location I’m going to and because he’s working it means a lot of time spent by myself, wandering around, visiting sights, eating alone and waiting for him to finish. It’s a strange kind of holiday, but I am definitely not complaining! I’m very fortunate to get to explore new places, learn about their history and culture and I love how it inspires me to write.
What to expect from this blog
Firstly, this is a travel blog, writing about where I’ve been, what I did there, tips and recommendations. I love to share my stories and experiences, good and bad!
Secondly, there will be some talk about sailing, sailing races and regattas, because that’s why I’m in the places I’ll be writing about.
Lastly, I also get inspired looking into the communities of the places I visit, their relationship with sailing and how sailing and the sea has impacted the local area and it’s history, culture and environment, so occasionally there may be some more in depth articles around those topics.
As a writer I want to improve my skills and also build up my portfolio in the hope of one day getting my own work published, so this blog is a way for my to tell those stories and display my writing.
The details
My aim is to post fortnightly, but it might be more sporadic than intended depending on the travelling I’m doing and other things going on in my self employed life.
I don’t make any money from my writing (at the moment), but if you’d like to support me I would be so grateful if you would ‘buy me a coffee.’
Coming up in my first blog
In October I went to Malta for the first time, (he was getting boats ready for the Rolex Middle Sea Race), so you can read about what I did, where we ate and why I ended up getting an Uber with two random Australians in the middle of the afternoon!
